On the Homefront
Monday 2 ,9 July & Friday 3 August

Handling free - Craft £2
Find out about life on the Homefront during the Second World War. Explore our evacuee suitcase, learn about rationing and dress up in costume. Also make your own toy tank to take home.
This is a drop in activity.

Clay Modelling
3,17, 24 ,27 July & 2 August

Try your hand at modelling in air-drying clay, and get some advice on how to turn your lump of clay into anything you like.

Toys Through Time

Try out some 20th century toys; from board games to video games, outdoors and indoors. See how toys have changed over the last hundred years. You can even decorate your own Frisbee to take home.

Woolly Weaving

Learn about Lanarkshire’s weaving heritage, handle some of the tools of trade and try your hand at peg weaving to make a woolly bug or a bookmark to take home (younger children may need a little help with this craft).

The Swinging 60s

Let’s go back to the swinging sixties and try a few groovy fashions, gadgets and games. Make your own tie dye t-shirt to take home. Please note, t-shirts take one hour to set so please arrive in plenty of time (all materials provided).

Boatbuilding Challenge

Summerlee is the home of the Vulcan, the world’s first all iron hulled boat. Emulate the master boat builders of the nineteenth century by building your own boat from the materials available and taking on our marble challenge.

Browse through a selection of 1980s children’s comics and have a go at creating your own comic strip and Beano badges.

Forget Me Nots Coatbridge

As the centenary of the First World War comes to an end, we recreate a typical Edwardian love token. Have your photo taken as a soldier or Edwardian lady and mounted in a love token of your own design.

Festival 2018 Carnival Arts workshop Week
Tuesday 24 - Friday 27 July

Join in the celebrations! Come along to a family fun workshop led by expert artists to create and make carnival style artworks. Whether it’s a fish, a bell, a tree or even a pterodactyl! Participants can wear their fantastic creations and take part in the European Games procession on 4 August in Glasgow City Centre

National Playday at Summerlee
Wednesday 1 August
11am - 3pm (Museum open 10am -5pm)
For Families
Playday is the annual celebration of a child’s right to play. It helps raise the importance of play and the need to make our communities both safe and child-friendly. No need to book, just come along and join in the fun and games. There will be lots to do and see, such as mobile playgrounds, giant bubble making, giant games, arts and crafts, and much more! Everyone is welcome but children under 12 years should be accompanied by a parent/carer at all times.
