Cuningar Loop’s event attracted over 245 adults and lots more children who enjoyed a mix of activities from tree dressing, face painting, and arts and crafts, to free bike safety checks, a treasure hunt, historical walks and a visit from Santa.
The day was delivered in partnership with Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS) and Healthy n Happy Community Development Trust, with Operation Play Outdoors delivering the tree dressing activity in recognition of National Tree Week.
As part of Cuningar Loop’s continued community commitment, FCS has allocated funds to Healthy n Happy to deliver a series of events in Cuningar Loop from now until March 2018. At least one event will take place in the woodland park every month with a focus on improving health and wellbeing and community engagement and will include foraging trails, gab and a gander, photography walks, guided cycle rides, buggy walks and lots more.
Events are aimed at all local residents and communities in the surrounding areas of South Lanarkshire and Glasgow to encourage greater use of the site.
Susan Miller, enterprise manager at Healthy n Happy, said: “We are delighted to be delivering these events at Cuningar Loop. We’ll promote Cuningar Loop’s natural offerings over the winter months giving residents the opportunity to learn more about the area and kick off the New Year with some great health inspired events offering support for those who are looking to get back into fitness following the holidays.”
Hugh McNish, social programme manager at Forestry Commission Scotland, said: “Cuningar Loop is a great destination for a wide range of activities. We’re pleased to be working with Healthy n Happy to deliver a series of managed events that will engage and encourage people to use the park throughout the winter months. Although the temperatures are cooler, outdoor play can still be fun and enjoyable for everyone.”
