Please note Summerlee does not allow dogs on the museum grounds and buildings. For this session you will only be able to bring your dog to the Photomedia studio for the time of your booked session and then you must leave again with your dog. Please be understanding of this arrangement and only book if this is suitable.

Wildlife of Summerlee
Fri 11 Apr, 11am-3pm
Drop-in, free.
All ages with adult accompaniment.

A century ago, Summerlee was a barren industrial site with little plant or animal life. Since the site became a museum, nature has begun to reclaim it. Our little stretch of the Monkland Canal is now home to a range of watery wildlife; whilst trees now grow where carts full of coal once rolled, providing homes for everything from fungi to foxes.

Join Summerlee staff and Countryside Rangers from Drumpellier Park, as we get to know the wildlife we share the site with. We’ll be using high-tech cameras to find them, pond-dipping to get an up close look, and there will be a selection of wildlife activities to try on the day.

Immersive Experiences
Mon 7, Tue 8, Thu 10 and Thu 17 Apr, 1.30pm-3pm (last admission 2:30pm)
Wed 9 and Wed 16 Apr, 11am-3pm (last admission 2:30pm)
Drop-in, free.
Learning Room
All ages with adult accompaniment

Try out a variety of games and learning experiences using our new 270° projection system.

Weaving from Sheep to Shawl
Tue 8 Apr, 10.30am-12pm and Wed 10 Apr, 1pm-2.30pm
Learning Room
Drop-in, free.
All ages with adult accompaniment

Weaving was a significant industry in the Monklands during the 19th century, with many local families employed in weaving cloth. You can try your hand at this traditional craft with help from Summerlee staff and take home your own cloth.

Easter Weekend
Friday 18 – Monday 21 April

Our Easter celebrations continue with themed arts and crafts, follow our Easter trail and enjoy an ice cream from our vintage ice cream truck. We’ll also have bouncy castle (excluding 21 Apr) and football activities (21 Apr only).
