East Kilbride Art Club is a small group of artists with a diverse range of skills, talents and genres of art from the more traditional acrylics/oils and watercolour to charcoal photo realism, mixed media abstract and surreal imaginary sketches. The club will exhibit a selection of artwork at the East Kilbride Art Centre and would like to invite you to come along to view the work.
Art has been a journey for us all, and in recent years it became much more than just a hobby and socialising with like-minded individuals. Through art many of us have found a way to deal with the pressures, stresses and distress of the pandemic years providing solace, an escape and sanity in a confusing uncertain world. Art became both a distraction and a means to keep us active and engaged with others when physical social interaction was forbidden or restricted. It provided a topic of conversation to keep us talking to family and friends even if it was via video calls. Art became a vital method of maintaining the mental health and wellbeing for the club members and something to look forward to.
The art club was founded in 2015, starting out in the founding member’s conservatory before progressing into various halls to accommodate the increased members. But the pandemic years forced us onto Zoom and becoming a virtual art club, which prompted us, at times, to set ourselves more art challenges and themes, including a online life drawing session with a model. In many respects this kept us going as artists, giving us something positive to focus on and look forward.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
