Complete Beginners Weekend Sewing Course

About Complete Beginners Weekend Sewing Course

Our beginner's sewing course is perfect for complete beginners or anyone who wants to refresh their skills. Our experienced tutor will help you master the basics like threading the machine and replacing the bobbin and stitch selection. We will then guide you every step of the way as you tackle four projects designed to introduce you to a range of essential sewing skills. Taking place over six evenings or one weekend in our welcoming studio in Hamilton, we will help you make friends with our excellent Janome sewing machines.

In this course, you will make a reusable shopping bag, a zipped make-up bag or pencil case, a luxury sleep mask and finally, Use a commercial sewing pattern to make a pair of pyjamas in your size.

The pattern used in this class is the Tilly and the Buttons Jaimie pyjama bottoms. We will provide you with a copy of this pattern. This is the standard version of the pattern; the pattern sizes are 61cm (waist), 84cm (hips) to 106cm (waist) 129cm (hips.) Please get in touch with us BEFORE the class if you require a size outwith this range.

What's included:
As well as all the tea you can drink, we will provide the sewing machines, all of the tools and threads you will need to complete your projects, and any interfacing elastic you will need. You will also receive your copy of the Tilly and The Button's Jaimie Pyjama pattern to keep to make again at home.

What do I need to bring:
You will need to bring the fabric that you need for each project. You are free to bring this with you, or we have beginners fabric packs available to buy in the studio.

This class is for you if:
You have never used a sewing machine before, or it's been such a long time you don't feel confident. If you need help learning the basics like threading the machine, winding the bobbin, and learning about seam allowance, you have never tackled any simple projects. This class is aimed at people over the age of 16. If you are under 16 people contact us before booking.
