Bothwellhaugh Village

A short film screening, historical maps, and photos of the former mining village.
Film Screening: The Drowned Village (29 mins)
An account of the last few years in the Lanarkshire mining village of Bothwellhaugh, from oral testimony of former inhabitants and based on the film shot by villager Joe Griffiths of village life between 1962 and 1965. This film was shot prior to the clearance and demolition of the village to create Strathclyde Country Park and loch.

Toys Through Time – Family reminiscence

Old Motherwell, Wishaw and Shotts

A short talk by Clare Weir, Museum Collections Manager, and some historical photos to browse.
Film Screening: The Big Mill (25mins)
Tuesday 12 September 2023, 2pm
The opening of the Ravenscraig strip mill was celebrated in the award-winning 1963 documentary The Big Mill which was directed by Laurence Henson. Additional collection items and photo albums will be on display also.
Lanarkshire’s Sweet Spot

A short talk by David McDonald, Learning & Access Officer, about some of the well-known Lanarkshire bakers and confectioners including Tunnocks and Kings of Wishaw.
Family Ghost Tour
Saturday 28 October 2023, 1.30pm – 3.30pm
Walk through our tower and discover some local ghost stories and superstitions as you go.
Film Screening: Dalzell House (69 mins)
Tuesday 21 November 2023, 2pm
An amateur promotional documentary about the restoration and development of the derelict Dalzell House in Motherwell into modern apartments, plus a chance to view some photos and archival material from the Hamilton of Dalzell collection.

A short talk about cinemas in Lanarkshire and a chance to browse some items from the museum’s cinema collection.
