This free art workshop will launch a new initiative by North Lanarkshire Council to encourage more people to enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits of being outdoors.
The workshop on 29 May 2023 offers participants of all ages the chance to learn the basics of working with chalk to create their own nature inspired pathway. Two sessions will take place at 10.00am and 11.30am.
Book your place here: www.eventbrite.co.uk
Meet at the coloured pavilion next to the Foreshore car park at Strathclyde Country Park at the start time of the session: goo.gl/maps/LEwejHdUZcmGKsq26
We will take a short nature walk, then create our chalk design on a park pathway.
We will explore in this chalk workshop:
* How to explore and forage for inspiration from your local surroundings to inspire your chalk design.
* We will create a discovery path with foraged plant clippings, stone, pebbles all collected from a short nature walk.
* Please bring with your own foraged plants and things of interest from your nature walks too.
* Art Mapping in Chalk is about documenting your creative process as you explore outdoors.
* We will then come together and create a chalk design on the pavement inspired by our adventures.
* This is family friendly event where all ages are welcome, all children must be accompanied by a parent or carer.
ARTIST IN RESIDENT
During the summer and autumn, two artists will use the nature and biodiversity in North Lanarkshire’s Country Parks to inspire schools, community groups and visitors to create their own artwork. The two artists in residence are Gill White and Kathryn Hanna.
Gill White is a multidisciplinary artist working in art, design, and film. Her public art and participatory art projects actively encourage spending time in nature, exploring the great outdoors by celebrating what makes a place unique. Her work blends visual art, design, film, and storytelling. Many of her projects are fun, playful experiences designed to spark people’s imagination and to actively encourage a culture of creative collaboration.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
