The biggest cycling event ever is coming to Glasgow in August – the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships. Find out what goes into making the world’s greatest riders with our 1-day Science into Practice Cycling Symposium.
This event is designed for all cycling enthusiasts, sport scientists, coaches, fans, and riders. Divided into two parallel sessions this symposium will give you the opportunity to hear the latest from a range of expert speakers from Olympians to world-class scientists and coaches. One session is designed in a round table applied presentation/discussion format giving you an opportunity to get involved and contribute, engage in discussions on everything from the physiological, biomechanical and mental side of powering a bike. The second session will be of a more traditional presentation format where you will hear from some of the leading scientists on improving performance and the benefits of cycling. This session will also include the Professor Louis Passfield Memorial Presentation to mark Louis's contribution to cycling science.
The event will be hosted at the £110 million state-of-the-art Lanarkshire Campus. Delegates will have the opportunity to visit UWS’s environmental chamber (one of only two in Scotland). The chamber replicates environmental extremes, from running in the desert to cycling one of the world’s highest mountains and can be used by athletes to improve physical performance in the lead up to sporting events.
