The aim of My Guide is to support someone with sight loss to safely navigate the environment, building self-confidence and increasing social interaction; whilst maintaining dignity and promoting independence.
We are actively recruiting 3 different type of My Guide volunteer roles across Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire and Ayrshire:
1. My Guide Sighted Guide - As a Sighted Guide volunteer you will provide sighted guide assistance on a regular basis to people living with sight loss to help them achieve their goals (approx. 3 hours a weekly). The lengths of partnerships vary, from 6 weeks to 12months+, and your availability and interests will be matched with a suitable client.
2. My Guide Promoter - This role aims to support the growth of My Guide by promoting all elements of the service to people with sight loss, potential volunteers and external organisations. Tasks include: Identifying locations to distribute My Guide service literature within the local area e.g. libraries, local organisations and eye clinics; Helping find, plan and attend information days, meetings or talks within the local area to promote the service to people with sight loss, potential volunteers and potential referral sources; Working with relevant staff to research and identify media opportunities to target volunteer recruitment and user engagement within your local area. This would be a great opportunity to develop marketing and PR skills. Approx 6-8 hours a week but variable dependent on local needs.
3. My Guide Partnership Support - This is a lead volunteer role which involves supporting our ‘My Guide partnerships’ by helping us to recruit volunteers, and by working with both the individual with sight-loss and their volunteer sighted guide to plan and review the goals and activities set within their My Guide partnership. This will ensure they get the maximum benefit from the service. This role is flexible dependent on volunteer availability and local needs, approx. 1 day per week.
