The investment at The Stonehouse on Cadzow Street is being undertaken by Heineken-owned Star Pubs &; Bars and will transform the dated bar into a quality traditional pub. Lanarkshire born-and-bred Paul Coulter will take the helm as The Stonehouse’s new operator. Four new jobs will be created.
Work is set to start on 5th July, and The Stonehouse is scheduled to reopen by mid-August.
The project will completely restore the outside of The Stonehouse – which dates back to 1859 – enhancing the centre of Hamilton. The renovations include painting the building, new signage and lighting, and pavement seating for 30 people. A colourful display of flowers will complete the look.
The internal revamp will retain all the character of the distinctive corner pub whilst upgrading it throughout and making it more welcoming and contemporary. The new design incorporates wood floors and panelling, leather upholstery, quirky lighting and decorations, as well as a cosy snug area.
A host of new features will enable The Stonehouse to meet the needs of the whole community. The makeover will install BT and Sky Sports along with an exceptional audio-visual system and four screens for those wanting to enjoy sports and entertainment. To cater for all occasions there will be an extended selection of wines, spirits and cocktails plus a new coffee machine serving hot drinks all day.
Beer and cider lovers have not been forgotten either: a cellar overhaul will add state-of-the-art dispense equipment to ensure consistently perfect pints.
Taking over The Stonehouse is a dream come true for Paul Coulter: “Hamilton is a really friendly town; I feel very fortunate to have found such a great pub here. The Stonehouse is a beautiful old pub with lots of potential. The refurbishment will give it the investment and TLC it needs. I want to make it welcoming to all. I can’t wait to open the doors.”
Adds Matt Dyson, Star Pub & Bars operations director for Scotland: “We’re delighted to be investing in Hamilton. The Stonehouse is in a prominent position, so the
improvements will contribute to the regeneration of the town centre. The refurbishment will help the pub thrive for the long term and give people lots more reasons to visit. Paul is passionate about relaunching The Stonehouse. He has a fantastic local knowledge and understands just what people want. We wish him all the best!”
