This new family pride festival will be a vibrant celebration of LGBTQ+ culture and will take place in the South Lanarkshire town’s main high street and town square alongside the stunning ‘A listed’ Edwardian Baroque Style Hamilton Townhouse venue.
The events program will showcase high quality, high impact performances from a variety of performers. These include circus acts, street-based performance, dance and theatre groups alongside music groups, D. J’s, choirs and more.
Day one we will feature the fabulous Bingo Babes and Drag at the Townhouse featuring an evening of drag, cabaret and comedy delivered by some of the best drag performers in Scotland. Tickets are on sale from the Townhouse Hamilton online box office.
For day two, the event takes over Hamilton Town centre’s main high street, Quarry Street and town square in what will be a carnival atmosphere in celebration and support of our LGBTQ+ community. The popular Hamilton Market and Smiths’ Family funfair will also be onsite at this free and family friendly event. Keep up to date with this event by following our social media channel Hamilton Our Town.
Event organiser Malcolm Thomas-Harley commented: “Our mission with this event is to create an impactful space for our community to come together in a spirit of celebration and collaboration, providing a platform that is long overdue in the area for our LGBTQ+ community. We will be raising funds for LGBTQ+ organisations alongside awareness regarding the superb work of these groups. As event managers from the LGBTQ+ community ourselves, we have an opportunity make a difference. Hamilton Our Town is an organisation set up to support the town and in turn community, making no profit from our activities and ran by a volunteer board. We’re proud to launch Pride, South Lanarkshire in Hamilton for its inaugural year and stand ready to support its return annually though the growth of a new network of community partners.
We would like to highlight and thank EventScotland for their support alongside our events team including Brendon Mcllroy, Halo Arts and education and Garry King. We are now welcoming any organisation that would like to work with us or indeed Sponsor this important event. We look forward to seeing you all on the 28th and 29th of July in Hamilton!”
THE organisation behind one of Scotland's most historic travel traditions is calling for young people to join its board as it seeks to capitalise on a surge in interest amongst Gen Z travellers.
