isitors will enjoy a programme of activities from winter storytelling to nature-inspired craft activities. The Festive Weekend, which is supported with funds raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, takes place on Saturday 7 December and Sunday 8 December.
The team from Macastory will be on site for a storytelling experience perfect for young children and their families, engaging their imagination to celebrate the magic of the season. Coorie In will bring the joy of winter with tales of seasonal magic, enchanting songs, and holiday cheer. Visitors will also be able to get creative with festive crafts that include making a cute ‘pig in a blanket’ pine cone decoration, a paper-cone turkey as well as scented pomanders or a mulled spice sachet.
The celebration will continue on the museum’s historic working farm where the farmhouse will be decorated for Christmas and the animals are settling in for winter. Families can also meet two donkeys who are visiting the farm specially for the Festive Weekend.
Tickets to the event include access to the Museum, where visitors can discover the story of Scotland’s rural past through fascinating exhibits and displays. Families can enjoy Clyde’s Winter trail and explore the galleries with the Clydesdale Horse and his friends as they get ready for the holidays. The Sheilings Café will also be serving mince pies, festive themed cakes and hot drinks to warm visitors after their visit to the farm and beautiful Museum grounds.
Vicky McLean, General Manager at the National Museum of Rural Life, said: “Our Festive Weekend is a lovely way for the whole family to enjoy the build-up to the festive season with a host of entertainment and the opportunity to meet some amazing animals. We’re greatly looking forward to welcoming visitors to another great weekend here at the Museum.”
Festive Weekend at the National Museum of Rural Life takes place from 11am-4pm on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 December. Thanks to support from players of People’s Postcode Lottery this event is free with Museum admission and the Museum’s Annual Pass, where visitors can pay once and visit all year.
