Children designed their very own festive hard hat using inspiration from the local area as well as their own traditions. Pupils could use any material to decorate – from glitter and paint to tinsel and baubles – with the most festive and creative scooping the top prize.
A group of 17 pupils across primary three to five participated from Jackton Primary in East Kilbride, while 53 children across primary two took part from Stepps. Jackton’s front runner was nine-year-old Mia Pang while six-year-old Jacob Maher was crowned the champion from Stepps Primary.
The winning designs received a £50 Smyths voucher, while all participants received a chocolate selection box from the housebuilder.
Estelle Sykes, Sales Director at Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes West Scotland, said: “The designs submitted into this year’s Christmas competition have been nothing short of extraordinary. It proved to be a fun way to engage the next generation to start thinking about a career construction, as well as tapping into Christmas crafting. A massive congratulations to all those who took part, and hopefully we can inspire more budding builders to try their hand next year.”
Lynsey Stack, Principal Teacher at Jackton Primary, revealed: “Building dreams, one festive hardhat at a time! The pupils at Jackton Primary were so excited to celebrate the holiday season through creativity and craftsmanship with Barratt and David Wilson Homes. We’ve worked with the housebuilder on festive projects in the past and were delighted to be involved again this year. With teamwork and festive spirit, we've constructed a Christmas wonder to light up the season.”
Carrie Ewens, Principal Teacher at Stepps Primary School, added: “We’d like to thank Barratt and David Wilson Homes for inviting us to take part in this festive hard hat competition, we were delighted to be involved in the project. The children were so excited and we were very impressed with the finished designs. You can really see the imagination that went into their creations, they all look incredible. It was a great opportunity to build real life contexts of STEM jobs into their learning and we hope to work with the housebuilder again in the future.”
Jackton Primary is the local catchment school for Barratt Homes West Scotland’s Jackton Hall development while Stepps Primary is the catchment school for development Earls Rise.
